A Eaton Case Study
Irinox SpA, an Italian manufacturer of blast freezers and chillers, sought to optimize its energy costs and improve resource conservation by installing a large photovoltaic (PV) system across its two production plants. The challenge was to develop a control system capable of collecting and evaluating all the data related to energy generation and consumption. To meet this need, vendor Eaton and its system integrator partner, L.R.E. Impianti, were brought in to provide a high-end PV product range and technical expertise.
Eaton implemented a comprehensive solution featuring its PKZ-SOL string circuit-breakers for fuseless protection of the PV modules and NZM circuit-breakers to protect the power inverters. The system's core was the Eaton XV460 HMI touch display, which acts as both a data collector and a PLC, running on the Galileo project design software to process information and provide system control and visualization. The results were highly successful, with the PV installations now producing over 750 kW of power. Eaton provided Irinox with a future-proof system that offers granular monitoring, real-time alarm logging, and the ability to document energy yields for calculating profitability and meeting smart grid requirements.
