Swiss railway company chooses Eaton power units for high-speed train upgrade

SBB CFF FFS, Switzerland’s national railway company, needed a replacement hydraulic system for its high-speed tilting train after 15-year-old circuitry became underpowered and unreliable, causing train shutdowns. Eaton was brought in to provide a same-size replacement package using hydraulic power units.

Eaton designed and delivered nine hydraulic power units with re-engineered layouts that preserved the needed pump and valve circuitry while remaining 100% interchangeable with the existing system. The solution was delivered in four months, ahead of the competition’s 12-month timeline, and eliminated train downtime caused by hydraulic failures and related maintenance requirements.
