Municipal Utility Company - Customer Case Study

The Gemeindewerk Beckenried, a municipal utility company in Switzerland, needed to replace a medium-voltage switchgear system at a remote mountain substation located 1,600 meters above sea level. Their primary challenge was finding a solution that aligned with their high environmental standards, requiring the new switchgear to be completely free of the potent greenhouse gas SF6. Eaton provided its Xiria E switchgear, a compact and SF6-free product that met these strict ecological criteria.

Eaton's solution involved installing a modular and compact Xiria E switchboard that was ideal for the station's confined, difficult-to-access space. The system's maintenance-free design and front-side cable connections simplified installation and reduced long-term operating costs. The municipal utility was able to quickly commission the system and gained valuable space within the substation. Crucially, Eaton’s modular design allows for easy future expansion to meet the resort's growing energy needs, providing a flexible and reliable power distribution solution.
