Case Study: Westrans Company improves efficiency and safety with Eaton

A Eaton Case Study

Eaton’s response to customer concerns provides relief for bruised knuckles

Westrans Company, one of Canada’s largest distributors of truck parts, worked with Eaton on its remanufactured heavy-duty manual transmission program, including Eaton input shafts. Although the shaft quality was strong, Westrans faced a handling challenge: the packaging made the parts difficult to remove, slowed down picking, and sometimes led to bruised knuckles and minor damage during unpacking.

To address the issue, Eaton worked with Westrans to redesign the packaging so the shafts could be stored horizontally on slotted corrugated cardboard platforms, making them easier and safer to access. Eaton’s quick response led to a prototype in less than two months, improving handling efficiency, reducing product nicks and scratches, and boosting morale for Westrans’ pickers while helping improve productivity and the company’s bottom line.
