Eaton’s Hydraulics Group and SimEx-Iwerks Mark 20 Years of Thrilling Theatergoers

SimEx-Iwerks Entertainment, a global provider of motion-based theater attractions, needed a compact, extremely quiet, and highly reliable motion base that could simulate everything from intense racing vibrations to subtle floating movements. Eaton was brought in to support the design of the hydraulic system, including the motion base’s pumps, cylinders, valves, manifolds, hoses, and fittings.

Eaton engineered a three-degree-of-freedom hydraulic package for the TurboRide™ system, using components such as a Vickers® vane pump, Eaton NZ cylinders, proportional valves, and ORS hose fittings designed to reduce vibration-related weepage. The result has been exceptional longevity and reliability: SimEx-Iwerks says the original Eaton design has required no revisions in 20 years, and Eaton motion bases now power more than 2,000 units installed worldwide.
