Eaton transmissions lighten worries for heavy hauling fleet

H & P Transportation, a Brownstown, Michigan extra-heavy hauling company, needed to improve vehicle uptime and driver working conditions while handling highly demanding loads of up to 164,000 pounds in harsh winter conditions. With breakdowns causing costly downtime and a need for safer, more maneuverable trucks, the company turned to Eaton and its automated transmission technology.

Eaton implemented UltraShift® PLUS MXP 18-speed automated transmissions in H & P Transportation’s fleet, giving drivers smoother shifting, easier operation, and better control on challenging routes and grades. The results were strong: transmission failures were essentially eliminated, drive tire life increased from about 50,000 miles to 85,000–90,000 miles, driver fatigue was reduced, workers’ compensation costs reportedly went down, and H & P Transportation said every future truck order would include Eaton UltraShift PLUS.
