Eaton technologies help improve refuse collection productivity

Wayne Engineering, a Cedar Falls, Iowa-based refuse collection equipment manufacturer, wanted a hydraulic work system that could improve productivity in its waste collection trucks. Eaton worked with Wayne Engineering to evaluate its Power On Demand (POD) Advanced Technology for the company’s refuse truck applications.

Eaton implemented the POD load-sensing hydraulic system, using variable displacement piston pumps and related hydraulic components to better coordinate truck functions. The result was reduced fuel consumption and cycle-time savings of up to 20 percent, with field tests showing daily fuel savings of 4 to 7 gallons per truck and estimated annual savings of $4,000 to $6,000 per truck.
