Case Study: Forsse Power Station modernizes hydroelectric power generation with Eaton hydraulic solutions

A Eaton Case Study

Eaton Products Used in Upgrade of Swedish Hydroelectric Power Station

Forsse Power Station in Nälden, Sweden, needed to modernize a 1968 hydroelectric facility to support a clean, renewable power source. Eaton worked with WAPLANS Mekaniska Verkstad AB and distributor Hydraul Syd to design hydraulic controls for the Kaplan turbine, including proportional valves, pumps, and related control components.

Eaton supplied newly released Vickers® KBHDG5V-10 two-stage proportional directional valves with onboard electronics, along with other Vickers hydraulic products, to control the turbine’s runner blades and wicket gates. The system was assembled, tested, and commissioned successfully, and Forsse Power Station has been operational since fall 2006, delivering more than 250 gigawatt hours of annual electrical capacity.
