Case Study: Rolls-Royce achieves a reliable, lightweight Trent XWB engine build-up with Eaton

A Eaton Case Study

Preview of the Rolls Royce Case Study

Eaton products and technologies help power successful first flight of Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engine for the Airbus A350

Rolls-Royce, a leading aviation manufacturer based in Derby, England, needed lightweight and innovative systems to support the Trent XWB engine’s demands for weight reduction and greater efficiency. Eaton worked with Rolls-Royce on the engine’s low-pressure fuel and pneumatic systems, along with other engine build-up sub-systems, to meet strict new material and performance standards.

Eaton responded with a lighter, more modular engine build-up solution, including improved oil-debris monitoring technology and a range of certified sub-systems and pumps. The result was a reliable, technically advanced Trent XWB engine build-up package delivered on an aggressive schedule, with first hardware delivered within months and a new development pump delivered in 14 months to support testing and certification.
