A Eaton Case Study
McNeilus Truck & Manufacturing, a manufacturer of refuse truck bodies in Dodge Center, Minnesota, needed a better hydraulic system for its new side-loader refuse truck. Working with Eaton, the company wanted to align pump sizing with packer cylinder cycle time while also reducing excess heat in the trolley circuit and preventing hydraulic fluid leaks from loose adapters and fittings.
Eaton implemented its Power-On-Demand load-sensing technology with a custom hydraulic system, including tandem Eaton 420 Series pumps, Vickers valves, and improved hose and connector components. The result was a much faster ZR Series side loader, cutting packer cycle time from 17 seconds to 10 seconds, improving productivity by 20%, and delivering up to 15% better fuel savings versus similar conventional models.
