Eaton Awarded Contract for Emsworth Locks and Dams Overhaul

Joseph B. Fay Company, the prime contractor for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ three-year rehabilitation of the Emsworth Locks and Dams Main Channel Dam near Pittsburgh, needed a hydraulics partner for new gate operating machinery. The challenge was that Fay Company was unfamiliar with Eaton, and Eaton was not the incumbent supplier for the project. Eaton products and services under consideration included hydraulic systems such as cylinders, hydraulic power units, valve manifolds, and related installation support.

Eaton responded with a multi-functional team that worked closely with Fay Company to build a clear value proposition, demonstrate relevant civil construction experience, and show its ability to meet a tight delivery schedule. Eaton also highlighted U.S.-made components, anti-corrosion coatings, and integrated position sensing in its cylinders. As a result, Joseph B. Fay Company recommended Eaton, and the Corps of Engineers awarded Eaton the contract, making Eaton the key supplier for the hydraulic systems and related installation services.
