Radarmeteo - Customer Case Study

Radarmeteo was hired to provide 24/7 meteorological support for Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s “The Floating Piers,” a 16-day art installation on Italy’s Lake Iseo that drew hundreds of thousands of visitors and sat in a region prone to frequent, intense summer thunderstorms. To protect visitors from lightning and severe storms, Radarmeteo relied on Earth Networks’ Total Lightning Network®, weather stations and Dangerous Thunderstorm Alerts for real‑time cloud-to-ground and in‑cloud lightning detection and fast warnings.

Using Earth Networks’ data and round‑the‑clock meteorologist monitoring, Radarmeteo issued timely alerts and executed emergency evacuations well before storms arrived. On June 26, 2016 Earth Networks generated 30 Dangerous Thunderstorm Alerts during a fast‑approaching storm, enabling Radarmeteo to clear the piers within 20 minutes; over a 12‑hour period Earth Networks detected 33,000+ lightning strikes while gusts reached 70 km/h, and no one was harmed.
