A Earth Networks Case Study
Morristown-Beard School is an independent co-educational day school in northern New Jersey with 572 students on a 22‑acre open campus and extensive outdoor athletics. Faced with two core challenges—boosting student engagement with STEM and protecting athletes, staff and visitors from frequent severe weather—MBS turned to Earth Networks, installing solutions such as an on‑campus weather station, WeatherSTEM Scholar, Sferic Maps and an automated Outdoor Alerting System.
Earth Networks integrated real‑time meteorological tools into both curriculum and campus safety: the WeatherSTEM Scholar platform and Sferic tools give students hands‑on data experience (leading to projects, building a station and presentations at the American Meteorological Society), while the Outdoor Alerting System uses total‑lightning detection to automatically warn coaches and campus users. The combined solution increased STEM engagement and lesson retention and made severe‑weather protection fast and reliable for the school’s 572 students, 21 varsity teams, staff and visiting community.
