Keeping Florida’s Oldest Golf Course Safe with New Weather Technology

The Breakers Palm Beach, a 141-acre oceanfront resort home to Florida’s oldest 18-hole golf course, struggled to keep golfers, beach and pool guests, and maintenance staff safe from frequent, sudden thunderstorms and lightning. Visual and radar checks weren’t enough to get die‑hard golfers off the course, so the resort turned to Earth Networks and its weather safety solutions, including Outdoor Alerting Systems and web-based weather visualization tools.

Earth Networks installed two Outdoor Alerting Systems (with horn alerts tied to the Earth Networks Total Lightning Network) and deployed real‑time weather visualization in the Pro Shop to show approaching storms. Since the installation, Earth Networks’ alarms—triggered by lightning detected within 7 miles—prompt 80–90% of golfers to immediately leave the course, reduce the number of players who ignore warnings, and ensure maintenance and pool teams take shelter, with local Earth Networks field technicians available for support.
