Fast Growing St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport Cares About Weather

St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport, a 1,900-acre small-hub serving about 2 million passengers a year, faced frequent thunderstorms, lightning and unpredictable storm directions that made weather-related decision‑making difficult. The airport had been reliant on local news and free weather apps and outdated lightning prediction tools, so it engaged Earth Networks for advanced weather intelligence, including the Earth Networks Total Lightning Network (ENTLN), Sferic Maps and Mobile, and meteorological support.

Earth Networks implemented a comprehensive weather safety solution—total lightning detection, web-based visualization and alerts, outdoor alerting and ongoing meteorological support—giving PIE real‑time, localized intelligence. The Earth Networks system detected 4,423 total lightning strikes in the area in 2017 (with 283 cloud‑to‑ground strikes at PIE), and delivered measurable improvements in decision‑making, operational efficiency, on‑time performance and safety across the airport.
