WHTM, a Nextstar Media Corporation broadcast station serving the 43rd-largest DMA and more than 715,110 TV households, faced a major challenge: airport-based forecasts didn’t match weather conditions in viewers’ backyards across the diverse Mid-Atlantic. To deliver truly hyperlocal weather, WHTM partnered with Earth Networks and adopted the Earth Networks HD Camera Network along with real-time data from Earth Networks’ global weather network.
Earth Networks provided live HD camera feeds and hyperlocal station data—WHTM now operates nearly 30 HD cameras and leverages Earth Networks’ network of 10,000+ stations—enabling the station to show live local conditions across its DMA, increase live viewership and social-media engagement, and strengthen community outreach with schools and businesses. Earth Networks also supplies local field technicians for reliable camera maintenance, helping WHTM keep forecasts visually local and consistently on air.
