Army Navy Country Club Safeguards Members from Severe Weather with Automated Weather Intelligence

Army Navy Country Club, a private member-owned club with 500 acres and 54 championship golf holes across Arlington and Fairfax, VA, needed a faster, safer way to protect members and staff from severe weather—especially lightning. Sending staff to issue manual warnings was impractical, so the club turned to Earth Networks for automated, real-time weather intelligence and alerting.

Earth Networks deployed a club-wide system including seven Outdoor Alerting Systems, two weather stations, Sferic Maps and Sferic Mobile, countdown clocks, HD cameras and displays to monitor total lightning within a 6-mile radius and automatically warn patrons with strobes and horns. The Earth Networks solution allowed the club to detect over 230 cloud-to-ground strikes at the two locations in 2017 and to quickly and confidently clear outdoor spaces, protecting members, staff and nearby neighbors across all activities.
