Somerset Higher Education worked with Earl & Thompson Marketing to tackle a county-wide challenge: many local students were leaving Somerset to pursue higher education elsewhere, contributing to skills shortages and making it harder for the region’s five FE colleges to retain talent. Although the colleges were competing with one another for students, they needed a joined-up campaign to encourage students to consider studying locally.

Earl & Thompson Marketing created the “Go Somerset” brand and delivered a 14-week campaign using bus sides, bus rears, a dedicated website, online advertising, and Google AdWords, along with a toolkit of branded graphics for the colleges. The campaign successfully raised awareness of Somerset as a place to stay and study, supported ongoing promotion through social media and AdWords, and contributed to an increase in applications to the colleges.
