Spokane International Airport Eliminates Paper Process and Turns to a CMMS

Spokane International Airport (Spokane, WA) operates more than 700,000 sq ft across seven buildings and faced significant maintenance-management challenges: no active inventory or CMMS, difficulty tracking labor hours and equipment runtime, and limited data to justify staffing or control operating costs—issues amplified after 9/11. The airport needed an automated, JCI-compatible system to improve documentation, plan preventive maintenance, and reduce unnecessary labor and expenses.

Spokane implemented Eagle Technology’s Proteus CMMS (upgraded with mobile PDA support, an HVAC PM module, a BACnet alarm interface, and custom reporting), trained staff onsite, and entered ~3,000 assets. The system automated runtime-triggered PMs, improved responsiveness to alarms, increased documented productive labor from ~6.5 to 7.25 hours per technician, extended equipment life, and provided five years of maintenance history—enabling smarter planning, lower costs, and plans to adopt web-based Proteus MMX with mobile/barcode tools.
