Sargento Reduces Freight Spend and Improves Visibility

Sargento Foods, a family-owned dairy manufacturer based in Plymouth, Wisconsin with over 2,000 employees, needed to regain control of rising transportation costs and eliminate manual, error-prone processes. Their legacy TMS lacked visibility into carrier contracts, cost allocation at the order level, and the ability to plan shipments by cost, service and contractual commitments, prompting a search for a scalable multimodal solution.

By implementing e2open’s Transportation Management for Shippers, Sargento automated freight payments, locked carrier rates in a contract module, enabled real-time accruals and order-level cost allocation, and improved planning and consolidation. The results included a 15% reduction in cost per pound (excluding fuel), a drop in LTL shipments from 10% to 4%, consolidation of about four orders per shipment, and a reduction in freight payment reconciliation from 15 to 6 hours per week (about a 60% administrative cost reduction).
