A e2open Case Study
Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner program moved production from a vertically integrated model to a partner-led global manufacturing network, requiring coordination across 135 partner locations and multiple supplier tiers. The primary challenge was gaining real-time visibility and control over demand, orders, inventory and schedules so large subassemblies would arrive at the Everett final-assembly line on time, while also supporting partner-managed inventory, pull-based replenishment with Tier 2 suppliers, and rapid identification of exceptions that could disrupt the master schedule.
Boeing implemented the Exostar Supply Chain Management solution powered by e2open to manage end-to-end order, inventory and planning processes across multiple tiers, monitor events and exceptions against the master schedule, and provide consolidated reporting. Deployed in under 90 days, the system enabled complete order lifecycle and returns management, synchronized demand and supply, improved continuity of supply and cash flow for partners, reduced waste and logistics costs, and delivered better on-time performance through early detection and analysis of supply-chain imbalances.
