Australia Post Partners with e2open for Enhanced Efficiency

Australia Post, the government-owned postal service reaching over 13 million addresses across Australia, faced a sudden surge in parcel volumes during the COVID-19 pandemic as many postal workers shifted from letter to parcel delivery and operated in larger, unfamiliar zones. The organization needed a way to sequence stops efficiently, provide accurate ETAs, allow manual route adjustments, deliver turn-by-turn navigation, and enforce health and safety rules (minimizing U‑turns and certain turns, respecting speed limits and side-of-street delivery) while handling real-time traffic.

E2open’s Vehicle Routing and Scheduling (VRS) automated routing and scheduling, providing drivers with optimized stop lists, editable sequences, precise ETAs and integrated turn-by-turn navigation using roadside coordinates and live traffic. A customized safety-aware optimization profile addressed U-turns, right-hand turns, speed limits and side-of-street priority; initial rollouts showed a 60% boost in driver efficiency that improved to 83% after tuning, alongside increased delivery volumes and better compliance with safety measures.
