Ace Hardware Leverages e2open’s Transportation Management to Reduce Freight Spend

Ace Hardware, founded in 1924 and now operating over 4,000 stores worldwide with annual sales above $3.5 billion, faced a fragmented inbound transportation process managed with spreadsheets and limited visibility. With roughly 65% of shipments freight collect and about $50 million in annual truckload costs, Ace needed a transportation management solution that could be deployed quickly with minimal IT resources (while an ERP project was underway) to automate processes, centralize freight payment, and gain true freight cost and carrier performance visibility.

Ace selected e2open’s TMS to automate planning, execution and settlement, transmit orders to suppliers, and tender loads to the best-cost carriers while giving suppliers and Ace real-time status and cost visibility. The platform plus integrated procurement services and rate benchmarking helped Ace reduce freight spend (estimated savings of more than $18 million), improve carrier procurement, lower safety stock and lead times, increase inventory turns, and achieve better freight routing and real-time business intelligence.
