How Manus Uses E2B to Provide Agents With Virtual Computers

Manus, a developer of a sophisticated multi-agent AI platform, needed a secure and scalable cloud environment for its agents to execute complex, real-world workflows. Their agents required the full functionality of a virtual computer to run untrusted code, install applications, and use a variety of tools, which solutions like Docker could not provide quickly or effectively. They turned to the vendor E2B for its secure cloud platform designed for AI agents.

E2B provided Manus with a solution using ephemeral microVMs, which spin up in approximately 150ms and offer a full operating system for the agents to work in. This allowed Manus's agents to perform like human researchers, maintaining context and producing complex artifacts within isolated sandbox sessions. The implementation was swift, taking only half a day, and saved the company from needing a team of 3-5 infrastructure engineers to build a comparable system in-house. This enabled Manus to scale quickly and focus entirely on improving its core multi-agent orchestration.
