Darlington College partnered with Dynistics to tackle rising printing costs and environmental impact by better measuring resource use across campus. The college needed clearer, visualised data to identify waste—initially setting a target to cut printing output by 5%.

By installing Dynistics Active Dashboards and monitoring 85 networked printers, the college uncovered that it had used one million sheets since September (costing £4,880 in paper and £5,654 in consumables). The dashboard’s Green IT tab made printer usage visible to all staff, enabling targeted changes that translate to an initial reduction goal of 75,000 fewer sheets for 2010–2011 and a sharper focus on lowering the college’s carbon footprint.
