NHS Supply Chain electrifies 95% of Welsh routes with Dynamon

NHS Supply Chain needed to understand the feasibility of electrifying its 18-tonne diesel trucks used for critical hospital deliveries across Wales. The challenge was to determine if market-ready electric vehicles could handle the real-world duty cycles without compromising reliability, and to identify the necessary depot charging infrastructure. To address this, they partnered with Dynamon and used its ZERO decarbonisation analysis software.

Dynamon analyzed historical telematics data in ZERO to model the operation using 19-tonne electric trucks. The solution revealed that 95% of routes could be electrified, even with lower-power 22 kW charging, as sufficient dwell time was the key factor. This provided NHS Supply Chain with a clear plan: the majority of the fleet could transition to electric with minimal payload impact, while 15 long-distance routes would remain diesel. Dynamon's analysis also enabled right-sized charging infrastructure planning, avoiding unnecessary expenditure on high-power chargers.
