Appraisers Upgrade Their Data Center with IBM Power System

Appraisal Organization, a Northeast Florida county property appraisal office, needed to address rising workloads on its aging IBM iSeries 525. End users were experiencing slower performance, disk storage had climbed above 80% utilization, historical data had to be retained for years on unsupported optical storage, and an operating system upgrade would have added more cost and complexity. Vendor Dynamix Group assessed the environment and recommended an IBM Power System solution.

Dynamix Group implemented an IBM Power System 8202-E4C with 6-core processors, 64 GB of memory, and support for the customer’s existing IBM BladeCenter attachment. The new system nearly doubled processor speed, provided more storage capacity, moved 1TB of historical data from the discontinued optical jukebox to internal DASD, and eliminated the need for an OS migration by shipping with Version 7.1. The upgrade also reduced maintenance costs by over $30K over 36 months and saved about $2,500 in services fees, while improving utilization and end-user satisfaction.
