Case Study: CNBC achieves faster page loads and lower CDN costs with Dyn Managed DNS

A Dyn Case Study

Preview of the CNBC Case Study

Improving The CDN Model By Using Dyn Managed DNS

CNBC, the global business news site, was looking to improve its CDN model because it was dissatisfied with service levels, wanted faster response times, and needed better control, monitoring, and cost efficiency. CNBC turned to Dyn and its Managed DNS offering, including geo-location load balancing powered by anycast, to help route traffic more intelligently across its infrastructure.

Dyn implemented flexible traffic steering, monitoring, failover, and alerting through a web portal, allowing CNBC to direct users to the closest origin and better use its own data centers. The results were significant: page load times improved by about 1 second, or 30%, CDN traffic and fees dropped by about 80%, and CMS load fell by more than 80%. Dyn also gave CNBC real-time visibility into traffic and the ability to adjust caching and load distribution instantly.
