Abe is an AI-driven chatbot that helps people manage day-to-day finances—answering questions about affordability, tracking spending, flagging overdraft risk, and recommending savings. To move beyond passive advice and enable real money movement (bank-to-bank transfers, automated payments), Abe needed a payments backbone; Dwolla’s ACH API was chosen to provide secure access to the ACH network and the transactional capability Abe required.

Dwolla implemented its ACH API as Abe’s payments layer, allowing the bot (currently live on Slack) to show real-time balances, project savings, and—coming soon—initiate transfers between accounts and institutions. As a result, Abe can deliver tangible, measurable guidance (examples in the product show a $1,214.67 balance and a projected $175 monthly savings, with prompts that could free up an extra $200) and will expand to other messaging platforms, with Dwolla powering the transactional functionality and improved user engagement.
