Legal Defense Fund brings 9,200 linear feet of archives to life with Durable Digital

Durable Digital partnered with the Legal Defense Fund (LDF) to address two primary challenges. LDF needed to digitize and make publicly available millions of archival records chronicling the civil rights movement. They also required a website that would not only allow these records to be searched but also provide context through compelling narratives and educational resources.

The solution was the creation of the LDF Recollection website, built on Umbraco CMS and integrated with Preservica and Microsoft Dynamics 365. Durable Digital developed a custom Controller API to connect these systems, enabling robust search functionality and seamless content management for storytelling. The project received significant recognition, being shortlisted for a prestigious Umbraco Award and earning LDF's archives team the Archival Innovator Award from the Society of American Archivists.
