Hovione, Portugal’s largest active pharmaceutical ingredient manufacturer with FDA‑inspected plants serving the U.S., Europe and Asia, needed stronger protection for the confidential drug development and licensing data that makes up its intellectual property. Usernames and passwords alone were insufficient to secure access across its global sites and international teams.

Hovione deployed Duo two‑factor authentication company‑wide for about 800 users across Portugal, Ireland, China, Macau and the U.S., rolling out by country in a few weeks. Duo’s out‑of‑the‑box integrations and multiple enrollment and authentication methods (Duo Mobile, Push, SMS, phone callback, U2F) secured webmail, terminal servers and Check Point VPN, giving admins easier setup and users more flexibility while protecting sensitive systems and IP.
