Case Study: ATOC achieves secure, AWS-hosted Sparx Enterprise Architect collaboration with Dunstan Thomas Consulting

A Dunstan Thomas Case Study

Dunstan Thomas Consulting Cloud services deployment of Sparx Enterprise Architect for ATOC

ATOC, an organisation using Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect to model business processes with a MySQL shared repository, wanted to move its EA infrastructure from on‑premises servers and VPN access to a cloud‑based, HTTP/HTTPS accessible solution. They engaged Dunstan Thomas to migrate and reconfigure their Enterprise Architect environment on AWS, address authentication limitations (their AD could not be migrated), and provide secure access to floating licenses.

Dunstan Thomas installed and configured an AWS‑hosted MySQL repository, Sparx Cloud Services with HTTPS, created certificates and firewall/security rules, implemented per‑user authentication, and migrated the model (using staged model transfers and XML export/import). Floating licenses were hosted via Microsoft Office 365/SharePoint. The migration was completed on time and on budget; EA now runs faster and more stably over AWS, access is available remotely via HTTPS, ATOC staff were trained to administer users/groups, and productivity improvements were realised within weeks.
