Spliethoff optimizes efficiency with MeteoGroup SPOS9 Weather Routing

Spliethoff, a major Dutch shipping group with a fleet of more than 100 vessels, needed to maximize safety while reducing fuel consumption, costs and emissions across diverse trades and challenging conditions. To meet this challenge it deployed DTN’s MeteoGroup SPOS9 Weather Routing solution aboard about 100 ships and in its shore office to optimize routing, speed and voyage planning.

DTN’s MeteoGroup SPOS9 provides automatic route calculation, pre-built and custom ship models, forecast verification and bridge-friendly interfaces, supported by MeteoGroup’s Weather Room and regular crew training. The solution improved ETA accuracy and fuel efficiency—SPOS9 is used fleetwide and, in one example, a single day of better routing can save about 40 tons of fuel (roughly $16,000)—delivering measurable cost, time and emissions reductions for Spliethoff.
