Case Study: Air Methods achieves safer patient and crew transport with DTN AviationSentry Online

A DTN Case Study

Preview of the Air Methods Case Study

Safer transport for patients, medical teams, and flight crews

Air Methods, Medford, Oregon — America’s leader in air medical transportation with more than 5,000 teammates, 150,000 flight hours, and 100,000 patient transports each year — needed better situational awareness of fast-changing weather (convective activity, turbulence, hail, lightning) than its aging, unsupported in-house flight management system could provide. To address those weather “blind spots,” Air Methods turned to DTN and its AviationSentry Online Platinum Edition for operational weather intelligence.

DTN’s AviationSentry Online delivers real-time, internet-based weather data integrated into Air Methods’ workflows: more than 50 flight plans per hour are fed into the system so operational control and dispatch can monitor flights against dynamic weather and approve about 17,000 risk assessments monthly. Deployed to over 300 bases, the DTN solution improved weather detail and accuracy, giving Air Methods the situational awareness needed for safer patient, crew, and aircraft operations.
