Mercy Flights - Customer Case Study

Mercy Flights, based in Medford, Oregon, is a nonprofit air ambulance founded in 1949 that operates three aircraft across southern Oregon and northern California and performs about 500 flights a year. Their crews must meet FAA weather minimums while responding to 911 calls and accident scenes where rapidly changing conditions—especially fast-forming fog—can ground helicopters; to get reliable, location-specific forecasts they turned to DTN’s AviationSentry Online® Helicopter Edition.

DTN delivered AviationSentry’s internet-based, hyper-localized weather briefings, high-resolution radar and real-time en route information so pilots can assess conditions at the scene and along the route. Using DTN’s system, Mercy Flights’ pilots make faster go/no‑go decisions and constantly monitor changing conditions, helping the crew meet their goal of being airborne within 10 minutes and safely conduct roughly 500 critical flights annually.
