A DTN Case Study
Leading Global Offshore Jack-Up Company, a DTN customer since 2011, faced the challenge of planning and executing weather-sensitive rig moves and turn-key offshore projects where weather windows, safety limits and long-term site conditions drive cost and schedule risk. They needed more than day-of forecasts — including route/regional forecasting, 25-year climatology and metocean workability analysis — to bid accurately on tenders and avoid lengthy weather-related delays during operations. DTN’s NowCastingPro and climatology services were used to provide these capabilities.
DTN delivered regional forecasts via NowCastingPro plus a high-resolution, 25-year climatology (10–15 km grid, hourly data, monthly updates) and specialist metocean support to produce workability analyses for bids and operations. The result: fewer false alarms and non-workable days, clearer inclusion of expected downtime in tenders (for example, climatology can identify ~10 unworkable days in a five-month campaign), reduced overruns and lower weather-related costs, and improved safety and on-time delivery — all attributed to DTN’s data, tools and expertise.
