Case Study: Columbus Crew achieves hands-free weather safety and optimized operations with DTN WeatherSentry and OnGuard

A DTN Case Study

Preview of the Columbus Crew Case Study

Ensuring weather safety and optimizing operational performance

The Columbus Crew, a Major League Soccer club based in Columbus, Ohio, faced a persistent safety and operational challenge: fast-developing Midwest thunderstorms and lightning risk that required constant manual monitoring. To address the need for automatic, location-specific alerts and reliable on-site warning, the team turned to DTN and deployed WeatherSentry® alongside DTN’s OnGuard Siren Alerting and an on-site weather station.

DTN’s solution gives the Crew hands-free, real-time storm forecasts, lightning alerts, and a siren/beacon that actively notifies people to evacuate; WeatherSentry’s Spray Outlook and wind/temperature data also improved timing for expensive chemical and fertilizer applications. The result: staff no longer must constantly track conditions, they can pull live data instantly, and OnGuard has reliably issued multi-stage advisories (advisory, caution, warning) to halt training—protecting people and reducing wasted product while improving operational efficiency.
