BBC Weather needed to refresh and scale its multi-platform forecast service to give viewers richer, more accurate and more widely available forecasts across TV, radio, web and mobile. To meet that challenge it partnered with DTN, using DTN’s WeatherSuite solution to modernize the technical architecture (moving to cloud), expand data coverage and improve presentation across BBC Weather’s website and apps.
DTN’s WeatherSuite delivered the upgrade: up to 14 days of hourly forecasts, new data fields like “chance of rain” and “feels like” temperature, thousands of additional locations, a personalized interactive map and new moving graphics, all rolled out across iOS, Android, Kindle, web and broadcast. Millions of users have already seen the improvements, BBC Weather now serves forecasts for thousands of locations and supports its high-frequency broadcast operation with improved accuracy, visualization and cross-platform consistency — outcomes enabled by DTN’s implementation.
