Case Study: Cronin Farms increases yields and reduces risk with DTN Ag Weather Station

A DTN Case Study

Preview of the Cronin Farms Case Study

Award-winning farm increases yields with detailed weather insights

Cronin Farms, a family farm and ranch in Gettysburg, South Dakota that runs about 800 black Angus cows and grows corn, wheat, oats, sunflowers and soybeans, faced major challenges with highly variable, field-level weather — exacerbated by a nearby reservoir that diverted storms — and found town and on‑site stations provided either irrelevant data or only historical readings. To get accurate, forward‑looking, field‑specific forecasts and agronomic insights, Cronin Farms turned to DTN and deployed the DTN Ag Weather Station.

DTN used on‑field sensors and its Ag Weather Station service to deliver hyper‑local forecasts, automated rainfall measurements, agronomic alerts and archived data accessible on mobile devices. As a result, DTN helped Cronin Farms eliminate manual monitoring, improve planning and risk management, reduce energy and water use, better protect against crop disease and livestock illness, preserve data for insurance claims—and ultimately increase yields with more informed decisions.
