Case Study: Copenhagen Metro Team achieves efficient, low-impact tunnel transport with DSV

A DSV Case Study

Transporting concrete tunnel wall elements for the Copenhagen Metro

Copenhagen Metro Team needed to transport thousands of heavy, curved concrete tunnel wall segments for its new driverless metro line in a way that was cost-effective, on time, and as environmentally friendly as possible. DSV supported the project with logistics and project transportation services for the tunnel rings used in the metro tunnels.

DSV solved the challenge by chartering RoRo vessels between Sassnitz and Copenhagen, enabling large volumes to move by sea instead of road, and by arranging 100,000 m² of temporary storage at the Copenhagen port. The solution helped deliver nearly 22,000 tunnel rings weighing 385,000 tonnes safely and just in time, while reducing transport distance, costs, and environmental impact.
