Alfred Wegener Institute – Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research - Customer Case Stud

Alfred Wegener Institute – Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research studies climate change in some of the most remote and extreme environments on Earth, from the Arctic to the Antarctic. To support its research missions, the institute needed a logistics partner to transport sensitive, high-value scientific equipment to hard-to-reach locations worldwide, using a mix of air freight, charter flights, and road transport over ice roads.

DSV handled the complex logistics, including shipping the EM-Bird sea-ice sensor from Germany to Alaska and back, as well as moving specialized equipment to Northern Canada under changing weather conditions. By coordinating the right transport method for each expedition, DSV helped AWI deliver critical equipment safely and on time, enabling successful field measurements and data collection in some of the world’s harshest climates.
