Sharks Sports & Entertainment changes the data protection game with Druva and the cloud

Sharks Sports & Entertainment (SSE), the organization behind the San Jose Sharks, Barracuda and multiple venue operations, faced an aging on-premises Exchange environment and needed to move 400 staff to Microsoft 365 while introducing OneDrive and SharePoint. With a three-person IT team, SSE did not want to provision or manage backup hardware and found its existing Veritas Backup Exec solution lacked a cloud-native Microsoft 365 backup, creating risk and operational overhead—issues made urgent by the shift to remote work during COVID-19.

SSE deployed Druva’s cloud-native backup, which backs up Microsoft 365 data directly from Azure to Druva on AWS and provides a single management console, SSO/MFA integration, RBAC, and automated status updates. The rollout was 15x faster than prior on-premises solutions and cut backup management time by 50%, enabling a rapid, cost-effective rollout of SharePoint and OneDrive for remote work, eliminating hardware and off-site storage costs, and freeing the IT team for strategic priorities.
