Case Study: Greenpeace International achieves a 600% increase in volunteering with Drupal

A Drupal Case Study

Preview of the Greenpeace International Case Study

Greenpeace uses Drupal to Empower, Grow Volunteering

Greenpeace International faced thousands of requests from people who wanted to help but had no reliable way to convert interest into organized local volunteering. To solve this, Greenpeace built the Greenpeace Greenwire participation network using Drupal (the open source CMS) so staff and volunteers could connect, share ideas, and self-organize actions.

Implemented with Drupal (and developed by GoalGorilla), Greenwire added regional sites, multilingual support, a sync API, custom roles and group tools to enable scalable local coordination. The results: a sixfold increase in volunteers in the Netherlands, more than 20,000 members, 3,206 events organized, 16 live regional sites in 13 languages, and strong engagement metrics (53% social connections, 41% active online, 26% event participation) as Greenpeace International expands toward 40 regions and 60 languages.
