A Dropcountr Case Study
Denver Water wanted a more effective way to engage customers about personal water use and reduce consumption after earlier outreach campaigns produced only modest savings or were not cost-effective. To address this, the utility piloted Dropcountr’s digital customer portal to provide easy access to usage data and encourage conservation through digital engagement and social-norming.
Dropcountr was launched for 10,721 customers across several Denver neighborhoods in June 2017. Adoption was strong, with 19% registered within four weeks and 30% within 16 weeks, and email open rates reached 57%. Third-party analysis found Dropcountr users consumed 7.5% less water than non-users, and the program cost $450 per acre-foot saved versus $793 per acre-foot for prior efforts, making it significantly more cost-effective.
