Sundance Director Tabitha Jackson on how the celebrated film festival is evolving

Sundance Film Festival wanted to preserve the serendipitous, community-driven feel of its event while adapting to the pandemic and expanding its audience. To do that, it worked with Dropbox and Active Theory, using a platform called The Spaceship to recreate spontaneous interactions in a virtual setting.

Dropbox helped Sundance Film Festival launch and refine The Spaceship, an avatar-based webcam experience with proximity audio and new text chat accessibility features. The result was a vibrant social space where attendees could meet naturally online, helping Sundance better engage its community and broaden access.
