How one nonprofit is honoring—while evolving—the legacy of its late founder

The Center for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC), a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit focused on reducing civilian casualties in war zones, faced the challenge of coordinating a globally distributed team working across countries like Afghanistan, Yemen, Ukraine, Nigeria, and Mali. Because its research, field notes, maps, and policy briefs are produced collaboratively in multiple locations and often with limited internet access, CIVIC needed a reliable way to keep everyone aligned on the latest information.

Dropbox helped CIVIC create a central hub for sharing and updating documents so field staff, headquarters, researchers, and partners could collaborate in real time across time zones. With Dropbox, CIVIC improved the flow of work and supported faster decision-making; in Afghanistan, its efforts helped a NATO operation contribute to a 40% year-over-year drop in civilian casualties.
