Instacart Fuels Growth Through Automation

Instacart, launched in 2012, is a fast-growing grocery delivery service that uses trained Personal Shoppers to fulfill orders across many U.S. cities. As demand expanded, onboarding became a bottleneck: new Shoppers completed online sign-up but had to finish registration with paper forms that were scanned, printed and filed — a labor-intensive, fragile process that created friction, slowed hiring and lacked a reliable, auditable verification method.

Instacart automated the workflow by integrating the HelloSign eSignature API to auto-populate paperwork, generate personalized PDFs and collect legally binding signatures online. The integration was implemented in days, eliminated paper handling, improved the sign-up experience, and provided a tamper-proof audit trail (IP, timestamps), removing a key constraint to rapid, scalable growth.
