Drone Mapping in the Caribbean: Estimating the Abundance of Sargassum Seaweed from the Air

Syngenta, a leading global agriculture company, wanted to expand the reach and efficiency of its seeds and agronomy team while maintaining strong support for farmers during the pandemic. To do this, Syngenta launched a drone program and worked with DroneDeploy to build the infrastructure, training, and workflows needed to gather field data more effectively using tools like Stand Assessment, Live Map, and Plant Health.

DroneDeploy’s Professional Services helped Syngenta with benchmarking, SOP development, and pilot training, including DroneDeploy Academy, webinars, and in-person sessions. Within three months, Syngenta trained 75 pilots and began using drone data to assess crop emergence, stand counts, plant health, and storm damage, saving time in the field, improving grower engagement, and creating a scalable roadmap for future drone use.
