Ministry of Justice (MoJ) - Customer Case Study

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ), a UK government ministry responsible for courts, prisons and the criminal justice system, needed a unified cloud strategy after bringing together IT for around 20 agencies with hundreds of applications ranging from legacy Java and Oracle systems to modern cloud-native apps. drie was brought in to help the new MoJ Digital and Technology department define how it could move its entire estate to the cloud.

drie mapped more than 250 applications, grouped them into migration categories, and designed a three-stage cloud migration strategy that included a retirement platform for systems not suited to cloud, plus separate approaches for cloud-ready and cloud-native applications. drie also supported cloud supplier selection, helped choose AWS, and worked with the internal team on a pilot migration of 6 Java applications; the strategy was signed off by the CDIO and CTO and moved into implementation in December.
