DrChrono’s Open API and EHR Helped CityHealth Urgent Care Pivot to COVID-19 Testing

CityHealth is a San Francisco Bay–area urgent care founded by Sean Parkin that prioritized a modern, mobile-ready EHR from the start. When the pandemic hit the clinic made a rapid pivot to COVID-19 testing—becoming one of the first in California to offer rapid tests—but faced major operational challenges, including up to a 50% patient no‑show rate and difficulty staffing clinics and pop‑up locations. CityHealth needed a more robust way to send reminders and deliver test results quickly.

Using DrChrono’s open API and EHR, CityHealth’s technical team led by Dennis Ho built custom integrations that automated reminders, results delivery and testing workflows, tapping many API functions to fit their processes. The solution improved operational efficiency, allowed the clinic to manage high‑volume rapid testing appointments and partner/pop‑up sites (including Oakland Airport), and helped the practice stay resilient and responsive throughout the pandemic.
